The Rocket Knot
The rocket knot is to help keep the thread from pulling out of your fabric when you start your stitches.
The 4 Basic Stitches
These are the four basic stitches that students will demonstrate by:
- Sewing all 4 onto one piece of practice felt (as seen in image)
- Notice how stitches are nicely spaced and that the Blanket and Overcast are going OVER the edges of the felt.

- Demonstrating all 4 while completing their textile creature (see the notes below the videos on how you can apply the stitches in your creature).
Running StitchSimple needlework stitch consisting of a line of small even stitches that run in and out through the cloth without overlapping. (USED FOR: add-ons)

Back StitchSewing with overlapping stitches (USED FOR: making straight lines, initials, outlines)

Overcast StitchStitch consisting of repetitive loops along an edge, joining two pieces of cloth. (USED FOR: add-ons)

Blanket/Button hole StitchStitch used on the edges of cloth normally too thick to be hemmed. (USED FOR: joining the front & back of our project together a.k.a. the border)
